The sponsorship model here is basically purchasing access to policymakers and journalists who shoud be scrutinizing these companies. Its particularly troubling given the F35 supply chain connections and the $2 billion in taxpayer money flowing to BAE Systems anually. When corporations profit from conflict and simultaneously shape the media environment covering defense policy, we lose any pretense of independent oversight.

Ms Fahy, with respect, it seems you are pretty biased on this one. The Press Club is an institution, yes, but can only continue to survive with the support of corporate donors. I would ask you - how many addresses have occurred where corporate sponsors have attended and these companies are not in attendance? A mere table number marker isn’t exactly a huge advertisement for a defence company. I would also like to ask: how many addresses have you attended in person? Have you seen the press interact at these events with the mentioned attendees? I would argue that you both haven’t seen it and are assessing your view off a camera, as well as casting aspersions on all involved to suit your agenda.
