Perhaps I don't follow the news as closely as I should, but is the federal government doing *anything* to address what seems like blatant corruption at the NACC? Surely this should be their signature case!
Hi Sam. Yes, the silence has been deafening, including from mainstream media. The NACC Inspector, which is independent of the NACC and investigates issues of potential corruption at the NACC itself, announced she had launched an investigation into the NACC's decision on Robodebt after her office received over 900 complaints from the public in the week following the NACC's decision not to pursue the Robodebt referrals. After many months of silence from her office, we have recently learned that she had requested documents from the NACC and since examining those she has now confirmed she is conducting an investigation and has requested submissions from the NACC on specific subjects. From memory, the NACC was due to get those to her by late October (ie now) and she indicated that her report on this issue would follow later in the year. I suspect the government, and the parliamentary committee that oversees the NACC, are waiting to see the NACC Inspector's report. That doesn't excuse the mainstream media's silence. It ought to be investigating this significant issue, holding power to account and reporting in real time.
